How Do You Explain Undeserved Suffering?

This week  we will study Job’s (and his friend’s) understanding of God as The Judge.  As you study the passages for this lesson, be prayerful and ask God to reveal the meaning of His Holy Word to you.

As it has been stated over the past few weeks, we are examining Job in large chunks of scripture.  So please feel free to read ahead and review chapters 3:1 – 37:24

Bible Study Scripture:  Job 2:3-6; 3:20-23; 7:17-21; 10:8-17; 8:1-7,20; 11:5-6; 9:22-24 and John 9:1-3; 2 Corinthians 1:3-11; 2 Corinthians 4:7-18; Hebrews 2:10-11;4:15

Lesson Outline:

  1. Opening Prayer
  2. Read Job 8:1-7,20; 11:5-6; 9:22-24; 12:6; 12:16; 19:6-7; 21:4-34; 30:26 and review/discuss
  3. Read John 9:1-3; 2 Corinthians 1:3-11; 2 Corinthians 4:7-18; Hebrews 2:10-11;4:15 and review/discuss
  4. How would you explain undeserved suffering to someone?  Give specific examples that apply to you!
  5. Summary
  6. Closing Prayer

What would you say to a person who doubts God’s goodness in the face of unexplainable affliction?  If you are able, please provide scripture to support your response:)
